SO YOU THINK YOU WOULD LIKE TO OWN A DOBERMANN...
Well, the first thing you must understand is that you do not own a Dobermann... a Dobermann owns you ! If you have never had a Dobermann in your life before, it's a good idea to do some research so you have a clear understanding of the breed.
We recommend a bitch to first time owners of the Dobermann, unless you have owned a large breed before. This is generally because the males tend to be more dominent, they can be quite a handful often testing their owners at times. Fully grown the male Dobermann is a very powerful breed.
While most people think of the Dobermann as a "guard dog" we can tell you that they are the most wonderful family pet, this highly intelligent, loving animal learns quickly while becoming “your family’s best friend” and also your "protector".
There really is NO dog like the Dobermann, they get under your skin and !!! they are addictive !
Dobermanns have unique personalities and charming characteristics, as with any breed of dog but particularly with the Dobermann.
They also have a real sense of humour, wonderfully expressive faces and a curiosity that will make you laugh and love them more than you can imagine. Perhaps it is the Dobermanns strength and working abilities that attracts you ? but be aware that this strong, bold, athletic dog can become a shivering wreck if the weather turns cold.
The Dobermann does not like to be left alone for long periods of time so if you are a workaholic, do not choose this breed.
They will not be happy with just a pat on the head, they need your full attention and will be sat on your feet, pressed against your side or trying to clamber onto your lap.
Owning a Dobermann, or any dog, requires a lengthy time commitment. You should seriously consider the time, energy and emotional demands that will be required before you make a lifelong commitment of bringing a puppy into your home.
